The village of the same name became completely depopulated, perhaps as a result of enclosure in 1510. The village of Wiverton (earlier pronounced "Werton"), was impoverished and only five houses remained. All but the Grade II* listed gatehouse of the mansion was destroyed in the English Civil War.
Also called Waerton, Werton. URL:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiverton_Hall
