A Cataloge of Rarities Belonging to William Walker

Sloane 1968, 172v-173v (Catalogue)

British Library, London, England, Europe

Date:c.1736 Collector (major)Hans Sloane (1660-1753) Collector (minor)William Walker (-) Annotation:This is a list of items in William Walker's collection, at least some of which was acquired by Sloane. The "Catalogue" can be dated after 1736, the latest acquisition date specified in the document. There are two hands in this document: one is the fine hand of the list as originally composed, and the other is a messy hand that entered additions or changes: they may be of the same scribe, in which case it is presumably Sloane. Another set of markings, added after the initial completion of the catalogue, consists of overstrikes, underlining, x's, and check marks used in the process of checking Sloane's objects against the list. One set of x's is in red, which Sloane is known to have used for this purpose.

The x's and checks have not been added to the transcription, and alterations (i.e. additions and deletions) are marked without indication of responsibility, given that the relationship between the fine and the messy hands is not clear.
