William Milner (29 Nov 1662 - 23 Dec 1740)

Justice of the peace, wool merchant, alderman of Leeds, and Mayor of Leeds in 1697. He was the son of William Milner, merchant, of Leeds and lord of the manor of Beeston, then of Nun-Appleton. "Alderman Milner took possession of Nun-Appleton in 1711, accompanied by Ralph Thoresby, his intimate friend, and lawyer Witton. All three, says Mr. Markham (Life of the Great Lord Fairfax, p. 406), were closely connected with Lord Fairfax, by service, if not by blood" (Yorkshire Diaries, 139 n13).
