Heneage Finch (1628 - 1689)

He succeeded to the earldom of Winchilsea in 1639. He was confirmed as governor of Dover and appointed lord lieutenant of Kent in 1660 and was ambassador to Turkey from 1660 to 1669. On his way home, he stopped in Sicily to visit Mount Etna, which had recently erupted. His account was published in London as A True and Exact Relation of the Late Prodigious Earthquake and Eruption of Mount Aetna.
