Robert Glover ( 1544 - 1588)
Officer of arms, herald, genealogist, and antiquarian. He held the office of Somerset Herald of Arms in Ordinary at the College of Arms in London from 1571 until his death. He conducted "visitations" to various counties (including Yorkshire) to register and regulate the coats of arms of nobility and gentry and to record pedigrees. In that capacity, he is author of "The visitation of Yorkshire, made in the years 1584/5," which survives in a few manuscripts. A modern editions was edited and privately published by Joseph Foster in 1875. Thoresby in one instance misidentifies Robert as "Richard" (518).
