Oliver Bowles (c.1577 - 1644)

Church of England minister of Sutton. He served in the Westminster Assembly from 1643–1644. The assembly “was commissioned by parliament in July 1643 to revise the doctrine, liturgy, and government of the English church” (Van Dixhoorn). A “character” (presumably a short biography rather than a short satirical sketch) of Bowles was included in a manuscript collected by Thoresby (537). Thoresby or the manuscript identifies Bowles as being from Yorkshire, although his Yorkshire roots are unclear.
