Richard Hooke (1623 - 1688)
Church of England clergyman and polemicist. Admitted to Peterhouse, Cambridge at the age of 16 on 14 June 1639, graduating B.A. in 1642, M.A. in 1651. and D.D, in 1665. Ordained as a deacon and priest 25 July 1646, preaching throughout the diocese of York, then: Vicar at St John the Baptist, Halifax, 1662-1689; Rector at Thornton in Craven, Yorkshire in 1668; Prebend of Grindal at York Minster, 1670-1689. Master at St John the Baptist Hospital, Ripon 1672-1689, and Master of St Mary Magdalene Hospital 1672-1711. Held the Prebend of Oxton, First Part at Southwell Minister from 1675 to 1689.
