George Edwards (3 Apr 1693/4 - 23 Jul 1773)

Naturalist and friend and employee of Sir Hans Sloane, and possibly the "Mr. Edwards" who is named as a benefactor in Salter's museum catalogue. He visited his friend and patron frequently in Chelsea in Sloane's later years (Faulkner 1810, 259-60). This could possibly be the same Mr. George Edwards that Emanuel Mendes da Costa includes in his list of literati and collectors, though he has his date as "about 1778" (207).
