Verney (née Paschall) Catherine ( - 1748)
The Honourable Mrs. Verney named as a “benefactor” in the catalogues of Salter’s museum was probably Catherine Verney (née Paschall), who married Ralph Verney in 24 February 1708. Verney was born in Little Chelsea and succeeded his father, John Verney, as Viscount on 23 June 1717. He was known as Viscount Fermanagh until 1742 and thereafter as Earl Verney. Varney sat in the Irish House of Lords as well as in the British House of Commons. Both Ralph and Catherine Verney died in Little Chelsea.
Verney’s father, Sir John Verney (1640-1717), 2nd Baronet and later Viscount of the County of Fermanagh, was a merchant with the Levant Company and later a politician. Verney's mother, Elizabeth Palmer (1664-1686), was daughter of Ralph Palmer of Little Chelsea. After the death of Elizabeth, John Verney lived in Hatton Garden. He was a frequenter of coffee houses in the 1670s.
