Henry Vane (18 Feb 1589 - 1655)

English politician, serving in the House of Commons an in the role of Secretary of State under Charles I and Comptroller of his household. "He held ambassadorial appointments in Sweden and the Low Countries, where he collected paintings and a book of Holbein's work for Arundel; he later visited Germany on diplomatic business" (Leith-Ross, 170). In 1631, he was sent sent to Germany to negotiate with Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden. This is probably the "Henry Vane" named as a benefactor in Musaeum Tradescantianum, rather than his son (1613–1662) by the same name (Leith-Ross, 170).
