According to Leith-Ross, he is probably the "Sir John Aemoote" who is named as a benefactor in Musaeum Tradescantianum:[a] Groom of the bedchamber to James I, who had travelled in Italy and later to Paris with Lord Hay and who seems to have made his mark in history by his prowess at dancing, being esteemed one of 'the most principall and loftie' high dancers in Ben Jonson's Irish Masque (171).Relevant locations: Birth place in Scotland
