Patrick Murray (1632 - 1671)

Botanist, gardener, and inspiration for Sir Robert Sibbald and Sir Andrew Balfour's establishment of a Edinburgh Physic Garden. He embarked on a grand tour of Europe on 2 September 1668 and died in Avignon in early September 1671. After Murray's death, Sibbald and Balfour transported his large collection of 1,000 plants from Murray's "curious garden" at Livingston Peel to the newly established physic garden.
