William Cecil (1520/21 - 1598)

Collector of coins at Theobalds (Selwyn and Selwyn 517). He also "had a cabinet full of 'rare things of workmanship' that included rocks, coins, and other antiquities, including a strange mineral specimen sent to him from Prague by the notorious alchemist Edward Kelly" (Harkness, 32). Cecil donated "7 old maps of diverse countries" to the Tradescant collection (Leith-Ross, 164).
