Hermann Hinderks (b.1907)

The record of the book's ownership begins again with Dr. Hermann Ernst Hinderks, who was born and educated in Germany. He emigrated to South Africa in 1935 to teach at the St George's Cathedral Grammar School in Capetown, moving to the University of Capetown as a German Lecturer in 1939 until his departure from South Africa in 1953 to become a professor at the Queen's University in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It is unclear how the Chronicle came into his possession and when exactly he sold it (not to mention why), but sell it he did to South African-born architect Kenneth Gardner sometime in the 1930s or 1940s for $600.
