Martin is in a bad way and petitions Sloane to offer her relief. She asks him to have his lawyer assess her legal status, as her 'Allowance or dowry' has been frozen. Her little girl was taken away from her. Her lover, Mr Knight, has remarried. He had Martin confined for a time. Martin lived with Mr Knight for fifteen years.
