Description of institution: Formerly owned by Henry VIII, residence of Princess Elizabeth from 1536 to 1548. It was the second site of Sloane's collection. He began at No. 3 Bloomsbury Place and acquired No. 4 as well to accommodate his growing collection before moving to this capacious manor house in Chelsea. Sloane owned and occupied it from 1712 until his death in 1753. Current residences nos. 19-26 now occupy the site.
