[Letter from Courten to Sloane 8 June 1690]

[Will of James Cole, Merchant of London], 82 (Letter)

British Library, London, England, Europe

Date:8 June 1690 N/AHans Sloane (1660-1753) PatientWilliam Courten (28 Mar 1642-26 Mar 1702) Annotation:Diagnosis: A "lurking" fever.
Response: Courten has been bled 18oz. so far (two 9oz. sessions), and has eaten only water gruel and pure wine, to no effect.
Themes: Doctor-patient relationships
Courten seems upset that Sloane was not around -- which he apparently should have been -- since his very presence would have helped to alleviate the fever.
