William Bennett, Lord Grubbet (c. 1642 - 1710)
Created 1st Baronet of Grubet on 18 Nov 1670. Married Christian (Morison) Nisbet in 1665. Their son William Bennet (1666-1729) succeeded to the Baronetcy in 1710. Sibbald refers to the "Laird of Grubbet" and in the same context to "the young Laird, an ingenious Gentleman." Neither William was young at the time of Sibbald's publication in 1697. The younger William Bennet "supported the Union of the Parliaments in 1707, and he led a force that protected Kelso from the Jacobites in the 1715 Rising. The lands passed to the Marquis of Tweeddale" (M. Coventry, Castles of the Clans. Musselburgh, 2008, 39). Relevant locations: Owned Grubbet House, RoxburghshireReferences in Documents:
