This is a receipt of sorts and a memorandum outlining the terms of the transfer of Casaubon's collection first, it seems, to Bargrave and then to the Cathedral itself. Although Bargrave would go on to incorporate Casaubon's objects into his own collection, it is not entirely clear who would had right of ownership.
The original document is written in the voice, if not the hand, of Thomas Fatherby who, under the terms of the will, was entrusted to keep the collection in his care for two years, at which time it would be delivered "into the Library of Christ Church Cathedral Canterbury," a role John Dawling (executor of Casaubon's will) would assume should Fotherby die before the end of the two year term. Bargrave signed the original document on 14 July 1673 indicating his receipt of the collection.
