View Larger MapDescription of institution: Geo-location approximate. The boundaries of this diocese has changed considerably over time. At the Reformation, the palace at Lichfield was abandoned, and Eccleshall became the main residence of the bishop. John Hacket (who succeeded as bishop in 1661), took up residence in one of the prebendal houses. A new palace in Lichfield was completed in 1687, and Bishop Lloyd (1692-9), built a new episcopal palace at Eccleshall, which became the chief residence of the eighteenth-century bishops ("Lichfield and Coventry: History and description").
