Description of institution: Known in seventeenth-century England by its German name "Kreis Marmarosch," anglicised as "Maromarus." Today in modern day Romania. According to the Atlas Geographus, it
Lies N. from Ugogh, toward the Frontiers of Moldavia and Transilvania, is 36 Miles long, and about 12 broad. The only Places of Note are, 1. Maromarus, on the River Iza, on the Frontiers of Transylvania. 'Tis a strong Town, and has Salt Mines in the Neighbourhood which resemble Marble, and a Fountain, says Bosinius, which changes Iron into Copper.
