Temple of Hercules Victor

Rome (Settlement), Italy

Description of institution: Located near the river Tiber. John Bargrave is apparently mistaken in thinking there were two Temples of Hercules (identified as originating sites of two objects), one at the foot of the Aventine Hill and another "upon" the hill where a church dedicated to St. Stephen then stood. There is in fact only one temple, located not exactly at the foot of the hill, which was indeed converted into a Christian church in 1140 by Innocent III.
