Ribbons like this one and the others in the collection would have been collected and kept as a memento for each of the Holy Places visited on pilgrimage. In this instance, Bargrave visited the town of Loreto. Cockleshells are synonymous with St. James of Compostella and are collective emblems for Sainted Pilgrims.] (early - mid 17th cent)
