Head of Satyr [ARK00271]

Attached People: Collector (major) - Bargrave, John (1610-1680)
Location(s): Current location at - Canterbury Cathedral Library and Archives (Library and/or Archive) -> Canterbury Cathedral (Institution)
Annotation:[Canterbury Catalog: Head of a Satyr, made of bronze. In Greek mythology, satyrs are a troop of male companions of Pan and Dionysus that roamed the woods and mountains. Object could also be symbolic of the "Green Man" however it is likely that Bargrave would have been more attracted by Greek and Roman beliefs rather with "heathen" or pagan ones.] (approx 17th cent)
