Annotation:[Canterbury Catalog: A hazelnut divided into quarters and fixed with miniature hinges. Each quarter has within it small fragments of plant material and other matter glued to represent plant material. Quarters are painted black, orange, blue and black and would have represented the four seasons. No provenance with this object; possibly may have originated in Meric Casaubon's cabinet for which there is no exhaustive catalogue. It is considered to be part of the Medieval or Renaissance object group in the collection.] (approx 16th - 17th cent)
