Annotation:[Canterbury Catalog: Chalcedony is a very fine-grained variety of the silica mineral quartz usually bluish white, grey, yellow, or brown. Throughout history chalcedony has been the stone most used by the gem engraver, and many coloured varieties are still cut and polished as ornamental stones. A good example of white chalcedony which was the most popular mineral quartz used by engravers for its qualities of strength and ability to withstand pressures of engraving.] (approx 1st - 10th cent AD)
