Joshua Ibbetson ( - )

An alderman and mayor of Leeds. "The Ibbetsons were a rather numerous family, of good position. Of five brothers, the second, Joseph, and the youngest, Joshua Ibbetson, were Aldermen, and the latter had just been elected Mayor when the second Charter of Incorporation was surrendered to Charles the Second. The nomination of Gervase Nevile to that office by the new Charter superseded him; but when Nevile's term expired on the 29th of September 1685, Joshua Ibbetson was again chosen, and he served as Mayor for the ensuing year. His wife was the daughter of Christoper Brearey, Lord Mayor of York in 1669" (Atkinson, 319). Ibbetson's daughter Mary married William Milner (1662-1740), a prominent merchant in Leeds (Maddison, 367). Relevant locations: Lived at or near Leeds, Leeds Parish
