John Battie (1663 - 1724)
Became deputy Lord Lieutenant of the West Riding in 1715. Inherited Warmsworth Hall from his father of the same name (1616-1676) and added to the house. In his diary for 15 February 1703, Thoresby describes his visit to Warmsworth and his acquisition of samples of "fine spar" (selenite) and the Darbyshire marble (or "Derbyshire" marble in the diary) he records in his Musaeum (I.413).
