William Webber, Captain ( - 30 Nov 1796)

Sea captain for the East India Company. Son of Charles Webber of Exeter; married (1716) Sarah Smith daughter of Captain Smith RN, Governor of Greenwich Hospital; elected FRS in 1766 (Royal Society record NA3704). He was the source of an "Indian Fan" donated to the Ashmolean Museum in 1750. The fan was brought over on the "Prince William," a ship Webber commanded for the East India Company from around 31 January 1747/8 to 22 September 1750, travelling to various points in Celon and India (31).
