Joseph Cookson, Rev. (24 Sep 1678 - 1745)

Vicar of Leeds. Educated at the Grammar School in Leeds and then Christ's College (B.A. and M.A.). He began his ministry in Hendon, Middlesex, and was elected Vicar of Leeds on 4 March 1716 (Taylor, 158-9).

He seems to be the Joseph Cookson who visited Thoresby's collection in June 1700 with his brother William, both young men at the time. Later, Thoresby added to their signatures his own annotations indicating the positions they would later occupy, mayor and vicar respectively.
