Thomas Stanley, Sir ( - fl. 1625)

Brennan argues that this is possibly the Lord Stanley ("an ardent royalist") that John Bargrave met in Paris: his son, the poet (whom Bargrave also mentioned), "was certainly in France at this period and later gained some renown for his Poems (1647)." Brennan adds that "In the Calendar of the Committee for the Advance of Money, Domestic, 1642-1656, Part I, 389, 15 May 1644, this [elder] Sir Thomas Stanley is described as wishing to 'stir abroad'. See also Part III, 1439" (104, n. 35). Another possibility is that Bargrave is referring to Sir Thomas Stanley, Second Baronet of Bickerstaffe (1616-1653).
