"[T]he well-known antiquary. He may be said to have done for Lancashire, though in a lesser degree, what Roger Dodsworth did for Yorkshire; but, unfortunately, his collections did not ultimately, like Dodsworth's, almost in their entirety, meet with such a home as the Bodleian Library" (Lancaster, 127, n.1)
