William Stanley, 6th Earl of Derby (1561 - 29 Sep 1642)

Politician and literary patron. There was dispute over his inheritance of the estate after the death of his father and then, soon after, his elder brother. After a complex and infamous lawsuit, his right to the properties, including the Isle of Mann, were finally settled in 1610 in the seventh year of the reign of James I.
