The Digital Ark: Early Modern Collections of Curiosities in England and Scotland, 1580-1700
Francis Drake, Rev. (1676 - 1713)
Vicar of Pontefrac, B.A and M.A. at St. John's College, ordained deacon and priest in 1676. He was prebend of York Minster, Warthill (CCEd 91815). He was father of the more famous Francis (1696-1771, surgeon and antiquary) and Samuel (1687/8–1753, clergyman and antiquary) in the York area. There are several Drakes from Pontefrac, and several of them clergy across three generations. In letter of 27 Nov 1707 Thoresby's friend Rev. Nathan Drake mentions a Mr. Nathan Drake, his namesake and brother to the clergyman's "cousin Drake, Vicar of Pontefrac" (I. 80).
