Henry Purefoy, Sir (1656 - 17 Aug 1686)

1st Baronet (1656–1686) of Wadley in the County of Berkshire. The Baronet was created on 4 December 1662 for the six-year-old Henry Purefoy. The title became extinct on his death in 1686.

Wood references his death on 17 August 1686, identifying Purefoy's father as George Purefoy. Henry "died in the house of Richard Witt, late registrarie of the vice-chancellour's court, situat [sic] and being neare to Magd. Coll. in Oxon, sine prole (never married). He was buried T., Sept 7, in Unton's isle, joyning to Farindon church in Berks, near to the bodys of his father and mother. Sir Willoughby Aston of Cheshire, his mother's son, he made his heir and executor, without taking notice of his uncle, Knightley Purefoy, of Shaldeston in Bucks. esq." (Clark, vol. 2, p. 264).

Hearne notes at the end of his Liber Niger Scaccarii that "Mr. Purefoy of Wadley hath a MS of Leland lent to his son Hals of Coventry." Hearne's editor identifies this Purefoy as George and "Hals" as his son Henry (p. 264, n. 2).
