Item, a rare antiquity and curiosity: two Chinese books, in quarto, printed in the Chyna language upon I know not what material,—I think either silk, or rather on the barks of trees,[*] It is the ordinary Chinese paper. —every leaf being double, and having in every page an ill-favoured design or drauft of picture. They were left me as a legacy and curiosity by one that had formerly binn my fellow traveller.
