Botanist. Studied medicine and botany at Leiden University under Paul Herman. Arrived in Cape of Good Hope in 1688 in service of the Dutch East India Company. In 1690 the Company employed him to collect botanical specimens. James Petiver refers to him as both "Oldenland" and "Oldeland."
