Charles Preston (1660 - 1711)

Botanist and physician. About 1700 he established a botanical garden on the family estate at Gorton. He succeeded James Sutherland in 1706 as professor of botany in the University of Edinburgh, with oversight of the the city's Physic Garden and the university's botanical garden.
