Alexander Stewart ( - fl. 1711)

Ship's surgeon and, according to van Leeuwenhoek, a Doctor of Physic. In a letter of reply to Petiver (complaining that he had been turned away from visiting the Dutch collector), van Leeuwenhoek writes,
I gave a civil reception to Mr. Alexander Stewart, Doctor of Physick, who also presented me with his disputation upon his taking his Degree, he having brought me the transactions and the letter from Dr. Sloane which you had given him. There were also two other Gentlemen with him, and I showed them several of my Observations" (dated 18 August 1711. Stearns 284, n. 96 quoting British Library MS Sloane 3338, fol. 8).
