Description of institution: "Robert Hubert, alias Forges, was in 1664 the master of the Mitre tavern in London House Yard, near the west end of St Paul's Cathedral. The Mitre was used for musical concerts, but it is not certain that Hubert himself organized the presentations. He did, however, exhibit "natural rarities" which he had collected 'with great industrie, cost, and thirty years' travel into foreign countries,' a catalogue of which he published in 1664. He spoke himself in the catalogue as a 'sworn servant to his Majesty' and said that his collection was 'daily to be seen at the place called the Musick-house, at the Mitre'" (vol. 8, p. 10).
