Attached People: Collector (major) - Bargrave, John (1610-1680)
Location(s): Current location at - Canterbury Cathedral Library and Archives (Library and/or Archive) -> Canterbury Cathedral (Institution)
Annotation:[Canterbury Catalog: Statuette of Asclepius, God of Medicine, wearing wreath, made of brass. Dressed in a long robe with his staff in hand with snake around it. Bargrave states that the statuette was found in temple ruins near the River Tiber: "dugg out of the ruins of his temple in the island of the river of Tyber, where now standeth the hospital of St. Bartholomey", "very ancient". A snake coiled around a stick has since become the symbol used within the medical profession.]
