Annotation:[Canterbury Catalog: Stylus Romanus. Documented by Bargrave as being "truly ancient; but thousands may daily be made, this being but a piece of steel about the lenght [sic] of one's middle finger, like a bodkin, with a blunt point at one end and a flat on the other end". The word stylus along with the word "style" came from the Latin word stilus meaning: "a stake; a pointed instrument, used by the Romans, for writing upon wax tablets".] (early - mid 17th cent)
