Alexander Marshal (1620-7? - 1682)

English entomologist, collector, gardener, and botanical artist. Marshal produced a florilegium for the younger Tradescant. Marshall, “the first skilled botanical artist that we know of in Britain,” was brought up in France and lived for a time in South Lambeth with John Tradescant the Younger (Willes, 183). In August 1682, John Evelyn visited Henry Compton, Bishop of London, at Fulham, where he was shown Marshall's natural history collection and was most impressed by his collection of insects."
