William Vernon (1666/7 - c.1715?)

Botanist, traveler, and plant collector, travelling with David Kreig (c. 1670-1710) to Maryland in 1698 (Quattrocchi, 2788-9). Probably the "Mr. Vernon" named by Jezreel Jones in connection with a exploratory trip to the Canary Islands. James Petiver identifies him in 1699 as Fellow of Peterhouse in Cambridge (Centuria, 54). Pool, a diligent enquirer into Natural History, about Nottingham, since which, Mr. William Vernon (who hath been very curious in the discovery of this minute Tribe of Plants) tells me he hath found it in Essex.
