Richard Steele (c. 12 Mar 1672 - 1 Sep 1729)

Irish writer, politician, and founder of The Tatler and co-founder, with his friend Joseph Addison, of the magazine The Spectator. Steele visited and wrote about the collection in Salter's coffee house (The Tatler, no. 34, 1709).
