John Reeve ( - )

According to Leith-Ross, the "Mr. Reeve" named as a benefactor in Musaeum Tradescantianum may have been John Reeve "who was sworn in as the royal 'ovall turner' in 1633 and who subsequently made 'picture boxes in Ivory' in the form of an oval and turned out round ivory balls by the dozen," in which case, he may have been the source of "divers sorts of Ivory-balls turned one within another" (178). Another possibility is Richard Reeves, "the eminent glass-grinder and optical instrument maker whose lenses and perspective glasses were regarded as the best in the world," given the "Severall sorts of Magnifying glasses" in the collection (ibid.)
