This noble Phalæna was first sent me from Jacobus Breynius at Dantzick, it was nine inches between the tipps of each Wing, this I gave to that most curious preserver of all Rarieties both Natural and Artificial and my very worthy Friend Mr. Charlton of the middle Temple. Since which I have again lately received it from the East Indies, amongst those Mr. Goff was pleased to give me.
Petiver, Gazophylacii Naturæ (1702-1706) 3. Phalena MONSPELIACA alba minor speciosa, maculis sanguineis nigrisque aspersis. This rare and beautiful Fly came among those Insects, which Mr. Hen. Goff and his Brother was pleased to give me, Collected in India, which the late worthy Mr. Charlton assured me had long since caught about MompelierMontpellier, and upon comparing his with this, I find them the same.
