Annotation:This is the second edition of the English translation of Jobert's Science des médailles. The first edition was in 1697. This edition has appended to it Joseph Addison's An Essay Concerning the Error in Distributing Modern Coins. This is the edition used by Samuel Shuckford in one of his catalogues (Canterbury Cathedral Li Ms E16b) of the Bargrave/Casaubon coin collection.
The other 1715 "edition" seems rather to be a re-issuing of the remainders of the first edition with a new title-page. The printer identified on this title page is evidently the new proprietor of "the Sun [printing house] against St. Dunstan’s Church in Fleetstreet," the same house that issued the first edition of 1607 under printer William Rogers. There are few of these editions still extant. This reissue cleared the way and perhaps made a case for a proper second edition (indicated as such on the title page) in the same year, of which there are many more copies extant. The British Library copy of the second edition has a handwritten annotation on the title page identifying the author as Louis Jobert and the translator as Obadiah Walker, but the DNB identifies Roger Gale as the translator. The second edition has a half-title followed by a full title page that emulates that of the 1715 re-issue of the first edition.
