Description of institution: Established as the Apothecaries’ Garden in 1673. Samuel Doody succeeded John Watts (fl. 1670s-1701) as keeper of the garden in 1692 (Riley, 94). Nicholaus Staphorst was the third "operator" of garden as well as the attached laboratory (Armytage, 26).
