George Gage (c. 1582 - 1638)

Roman Catholic recusant, diplomat, and art connoisseur. From 1621 to 1623 James I sent him to Rome to help secure a papal dispensation for Charles to marry the infanta. He was employed by Buckingham to assist Dudley Carleton in arranging "the exchange for marbles of Rubens' famous collection of pictures and tapestries and also sought out pictures for Arundel" (Leith-Ross, 167).
